Aleph

What is Aleph One/SDL?

Aleph One is an Open Source 3D first-person shooter game, based on the game Marathon 2 by Bungie Software. It supports, but doesn't require, OpenGL for rendering. Aleph One was originally a MacOS-only game, but I'm working on a cross-platform version based on the Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) library, that should eventually run on all systems supported by SDL (Linux, BeOS, Windows, MacOS, Solaris, IRIX, *BSD, and others).

http://source.bungie.org/

Project status

Aleph One/SDL runs on all Unix systems supported by SDL (Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, IRIX), on BeOS R4.5 or later versions, and on Windows 9x/NT/2000. It does not currently run on MacOS (for the MacOS version, click here). Except for network play and a few minor things, the game is complete and playable.

AOT

An Open Source port of the Hexen 2 engine to Linux.

Anvil of Thyrion is a project based on the Hexen II: Portal of Praevus source that runs on Linux and it's variants. Anvil of Thyrion was given its name in the hope that it will one day outgrow the name "Hexen II for Linux" and eventually come to represent both a modified Hexen II engine and tools for that engine.

Thyrion is the world Hexen II takes place in. An anvil is used by blacksmiths to create weapons and tools. I stole the anvil paradigm from AoT's distant cousin, QuakeForge.

Armagetron

(Pronunciation: just like Armageddon, just with a "tr" instead of the "dd".) In this game, you ride a lightcycle around the game grid. You can only make sharp turns of 90 degrees and a wall constantly builds up after you. Make your enemies crash into your wall, but be aware that they are trying to do the same to you. Only if you are fast enough, you may be able to trap them; but the only way to speed up your lightcycle is to drive close to the dangerous walls. Prepare for exciting strategic preparations followed by action-packed close combat!

GLTRON

The first version of GLtron (0.1) was written on a rainy afternoon in June 1998, as an exercise for the computer graphics course at the university. After that, nothing happened.

One year later I was cleaning up my /home directory a little bit, and stumbled across the sources. I had recently discovered a website devoted to linux games called The Linux Game Tome. I thought: "well, clean it up a bit, make sure it compiles cleanly, and put it on a webpage", which I did. Version 0.2 was created (0.1 was the one written for the course). It was less than 5 kbyte. I got a few comments by E-Mail, and generally people thought that it was nice for such a small download, but probably a bit too simple.

Over the time, I improved it, released / announced / got feedback and released again. People started contributing small patches. I added textures, I received a soundtrack, a lightcycle model, better textures, tons of ideas etc.

Now that you read so much about GLtron's history, you're probably curious what's it about. Well, as the name suggests, it's inspired by the movie TRON. Or more exactly, by all the games that where inspired by the movie TRON.

You steer a futuristic bike, called lightcycle. Combat takes place in a rectangular arena. Your bike leaves a trail behind, which is like a wall. The goal is to force the other players to drive into a wall. The winner is the last player alive.

Parsec

Parsec is a fast-paced non-commercial network space-shooter that has been in development for several years. It started out in 1996 as a lab project at the Vienna University of Technology, but has transcended its original roots to become what we would like to refer to as commercial-quality freeware (CQF).

The major releases of Parsec up to now were several versions of the Parsec LAN-Test, which were intended to enable players to get a glimpse of the current state of Parsec's development. These releases support Win32, MacOS, MacOS X, and Linux platforms, and 3D hardware acceleration through OpenGL and Glide (for the old 3dfx boards).

The Parsec Project, a term we also use to refer to the people behind Parsec, is the team of game developers that has been working on Parsec since 1996 until the open source release in May 2003.

Since May 2003, Parsec is an open community project striving toward a Parsec release that also includes Internet game play. The members of the original Parsec Project are dedicating their work to the Parsec community, and hoping that the open source version of Parsec will bring lots of fun to even more people around the globe!

Shogo

Anime-inspired giant robot combat

In Shogo you play Sanjuro, a hotshot commander caught in the middle of a war against a terrorist organisation that cost him his family and his girl-friend. As the plot develops, you will find out that not everything is as you thought it was. But make no mistake: Shogo is all about furious 3D action.

Some sections of the game have to be traversed on foot whilst other sections can only be completed with the aid of a Mobile Combat Armor unit, a 10 meters tall metal suit that packs some really amazing fire-power such as a laser-cannon and a multi-warhead launcher. In true anime fashion, the MCA's are extremely maneuverable and it's great fun to squash a foot-soldier now and then, but just remember to make a run for it when you're the one on foot...

Sin

Ten years ago in 2027, the city of Freeport was on the verge of collapse. The inefficient and under manned police forces were losing in the long, hard battle against crime. The city needed help, but the overburdened government could no longer cope with maintaining peace on the streets. The government proposed a new bill giving individual corporations the right to form their own private security forces, called sec-forces. These sec-forces would be able to provide private protection to the corporations and citizens of the cities. This bill was passed and a new order of law enforcement was born.

Several well respected sec-forces emerged and one hard hitting group calling themselves HARDCORPS led the way in crime prevention and elimination. The chaos slowly subsided as the sec-forces brought peace and order back to the city.

Colonel John Blade, the owner of HARDCORPS, and his sec-force teams are currently investigating the source of a highly addictive drug called "U4". This drug has been around for some time now, but lately, strange things have been happening to its users. It is up to Blade to figure out who or what is behind this unexplained phenomenon now plaguing the streets and put a stop to it.

The elaborate puzzle slowly unfolds and points towards the brilliant biochemist Elexis Sinclaire. Elexis is an enigma, a maverick in the business world who shows no mercy behind those gorgeous features. She works in the shadows at times and this mysterious vixen is attempting to push the evolution of mankind ahead by a thousand generations and will stop at nothing to get what she wants.
